The Capital Area Concert Band (The CACB) will perform on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 7:00 pm at The Trutter Center on the campus of Lincoln Land Community College, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield, IL.

This free, one-hour concert will include a fanfare prelude on “Ode to Joy,” a ragtime two-step by Scott Joplin, and an assortment of Christmas tunes including excerpts from “The Nutcracker,” a medley of Christmas songs from the 1950s, and Leroy Anderson favorites “Bugler’s Holiday,” and “Sleigh Ride.”

Formed in 1974, The CACB celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2024 with a series of community concerts to share their love of performing while sharing the joy of live music with the Springfield community. Currently, fifty volunteer musicians, ranging in age from 20-80, perform at malls, parks, and community festivals as well as nursing homes, schools, churches, and senior centers. Some of the original band members from 1974 continue to perform with the band today.

Get in the holiday spirit at the 34th Annual Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church Cookie Walk. This is your chance to buy yummy homemade cookies, candy, and treats. Choose from some of your holiday and family favorites. Come early for the best selection.

Put on your holiday attire for a fun December program which will begin with a report by Jacob Laurenzana, University of Illinois at Springfield student, who was the recipient of a scholarship from WACCI to attend the National World Affairs Councils of America Conference. Following Jacob’s presentation, a string quartet led by Kamen Petkov, will play beautiful classical music, and then participants will be entertained with holiday music by Bellacappella, an ensemble from the Springfield Choral Society with singers Diane Dietz, Becky Kemp, Kristy Sims, Claire Gordon, Linda Younkin, and Kari Jones
A holiday buffet dinner of foods from around the world will be offered.

As part of the NPR Illinois 50th anniversary celebration, attendees will have the opportunity to mix and learn more about NPR Illinois, Decatur, and the Staley Museum. Snacks and refreshments provided.

Storyteller Timothy Totten will share Frank Lloyd Wright's eight-year project, building the impressive and expansive hotel for the Emperor of Japan. Totten tells intriguing stories of history. The Imperial Hotel required extensive design work and faced dangers - earthquakes, war, and the wrecking ball.
