Nominations are being accepted through Nov. 15.

Each year, only one UIS student is chosen for this esteemed honor.

Priyanka Deo is the new UIS Director of Student Media. She spoke to Community Voices about her experience as a journalist in India, how she uses digital media to reach young people and her plans for the student-ran paper at UIS.

Enrollment growth is seen as key for the campus, which has watched the number of students taking classes drop from a high of 5,431 in 2014 down to 3,944 in the fall of 2020. That has slammed campus finances, even with the modest rebound in recent years.

The field of Medical Laboratory Science is facing a critical staffing shortage in the Springfield area community. Dr. Andrea Jensen, Program Director and Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Science program at UIS, spoke to Community Voices about the new bridge program at UIS created to address this shortage.

Homecoming is set for Sept. 27-28.

Esports is a form of organized competition using multiplayer video games. This form of competition has been very popular among high school and college students. The University of Illinois Springfield unveiled their new Esports arena in September 2023. The arena is located in Founders Residence Hall. Jay Swenson UIS Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Zach Logsdon UIS Information Technology Services IT Technical Associate spoke to Community Voices about the journey to bring the esports arena to campus, Zach's process of building the gaming computers, and about the UIS Esports team.
